Submission Call - For Not One But Two Anthologies

All writers are invited to submit stories to the following two anthologies edited by me:

1) Tentative Title: CHEER UP, UNIVERSE

Perhaps something we need in these bleak times. For this anthology, I am seeking ORIGINAL speculative fiction stories (both SF and Fantasy) that make us feel good. Feeling good is subjective so going into specifics is not possible. However, to illustrate the concept, I can point out two classic stories that made me feel good: "Minister Without Portfolio" by Mildred Clingerman, "The Widget, The Wadget and Boff" by Theodore Sturgeon. Hope you get the idea.

Length: No restriction

Payment: 1 cent a word to a maximum of $15 + a copy of the anthology

Deadline: June 30, 2009 or when filled.

Response time: One day to 3 months

[Edit: Upon suggestion of a friend - see "comments" to this post - I am changing the title of this anthology from FUN TIMES IN ANDROMEDA to FUN TIMES IN STRANGE LANDS. Feedback, please.]

I am looking for speculative stories aimed at pre-teens. Target readers: precocious kids between the ages of 10-12. The anthology will be fully illustrated.

Length: No restriction

Payment: A copy of the anthology.

Reprints and simultaneous submissions accepted.

Deadline: June 30, 2009 or when filled

Response time: One day to 3 months

Guidelines common to both anthologies:

- Formatting: Use standard formatting. If you want to show italics, use italics and not underlines.
- Send stories to ai_59 at yahoo dot com. as rtf or doc attachments
- In the subject line, state the title of the anthology to which you are submitting the story

(Anonymous): Fun Times in Andromeda

Really great to see two anthologies. How do you find the time? I know -- You've cloned yourself!

One comment on the title Fun Times in Andromeda. My first reaction was to assume the story has to take place in/on or near Andromeda. Someone else I mentioned it to had the same response. I now know that's not the case, but the title may limit submissions. Maybe change it to Fun Times in Space or Fun Times Off-Earth?

Good point, Marian. So how about "Fun Times in Strange Lands"?

(Anonymous): Fun Times in Strange Lands

Wow! That was a fast response! My only problem with Fun Times in Strange Lands is that, to me, it sounds like it takes place on earth. Maybe Fun Times in Alien Lands? Personally I like Fun Times in Space, but that's just me.

ps. I sent you the revised version of my story.

I am not looking for stories set only off-earth for this anthology. The stories can be set anywhere in the universe (including earth) as long as they have a speculative element, either SF or fantasy.

(Anonymous): Multi-subs?

Are multiple submissions (more than one story from the same author) okay?
